Hi all-

In some testing with Tom, we decided to open the chat to Air-Source wide testing. We don't want to make it an *official* patch yet as we want to make sure nothing is affected by it. We don't foresee any conflicts with the flight routine as the chat runs in it's own thread.

Just a couple of notes:
  • to try and keep server load down, messages are sent/received every 4 seconds
  • the online/offline button applies only to your chat status
  • private messages/admin messages and flight update messages are not implemented as of yet. We want to test the stability of the system first.

Please keep all discussions pertaining to the chat (issues/suggestions/problems/etc.) in this thread.

Hi All,

Works well!

2 Suggestions:

Only those pilots Online listed in the left panel.
Have a way to chat without starting a flight within MyAAS.

Thanks for the input, Jim. Glad to hear it's working good!

You don't need to start a flight to chat. Just load up myaas and go.

Having all the pilots listed was a thought for the private messages, so you can PM someone that's not online.

Also, just to add a little more info on the pilot list.

The "roster" is only downloaded on the initial connection. Then, the server just has to return the pilot number of the "online" users. myAAS already has all the other info about the pilots that it needs and just keeps things in sync using just the pilot number.

The list is always sorted so the online users are always listed at the top, followed by the offline ones.

Thanks Joe! I see clicking on the little Chat symbols opens the window. I was looking for the mouse cursor to change or something like that. We need to document that in the future maybe.

OK with the pilot list always being there then.

So far about 3 of us have tested.

I'll get the cursor change implemented (didn't even think of that).

Again, thanks for the feedback.

Hello Joe,

It works also here in The Netherlands.
I have send and received answers from users.
Active users are green in the list.
I do not see my name in the list?
I think you should only have the active online members there.
This for the moment till the Beta is fully working.
Now you can choose also another grayed out name and send a message but nothing happens I think?

Further it looks okay and is a nice tool and I hope many will start using it.

Regards for this tool

I really like it Joe.
It will take a while to catch on, but it adds another dimension as we can get to know each other over time.

Hello Chat users?

I use chat to communicate(this is made for it I thought)
When write something and send it I never or only in the beginning received a answer?

Why there is no activity as I see only mostly two users online?

Do I something wrong or is there another problem?

Waiting any reply as what I have experienced is not as it should be used for?

Hi Frans-

As this is a voluntary update (for now), I'm not sure how many people are using it. Also, I have not included any sounds, and not sure if I will, so people might not know if there are any new chat messages. If the chat window is not set to be topmost, they might not notice that there is someone else on. I might have to look for a solution.

I'm not sure if I will add sounds as there are so many utilities/apps that have their own sounds it could just be a constant bombardment of sounds going on.

Hello Joe,

I have no problems with sound and I am happy you developed this tool.
But is it possible to have chat icon blinking when someone post a message?

As I am not so in to computers it is only a remark from my side.
I have the chat windows always open so I can see who is online and send them always a welcome message.

Regards and keep up your good work
