Eaglesoft Citation X

Postby AS380 Mark Richards » 16 Jun 2012 14:21

Having had so many issues with the Wilco Airbus A380v2, uninstalled it and wrote off the money I had spent on it but went out on El Presidentay's (Norm) advice and bought the Eaglesoft Citation X. I've never had a Business Jet in my hanger, so it's nice to have something new to learn.

Well so far, two flights (both in GA division, spending a meer v$24,118.52 for 1.4 hours stick time!) and I'm rating it a good 8.5 out of 10 and that's only because of some issues I need to sort.

POSITIVES
  • External Model is gorgeous, looks fantastic
  • Excellent frames in 2D, virtual and external views
  • Interior model is excellent with lovely panels and excellent use of existing buttons for the panel controls
  • Hand-flies like a dream
  • 7 different liveries come with it so spoiled for choice
  • Wide screen panels for those of us with WS monitors or normal for those without
  • The manuals are extremely extensive and well written

NOT SO POSITIVES
  • It seems to taxi VERY quickly
  • The throttles don't seem to want to go below 40% N1 (which probably also explains the taxiing issue)
  • The lights are not mapped to the normal controls so FS Flightkeeper keeps penalising me for having lights off when I should have then on and on when I should have them off, despite me flicking the requisite switches.

I'm going to have to have some more plays with it and hope to use it for some of my Operation HERMES sectors (can see it ideal for me flying the one competitor from the Maldives - why shouldn't he travel in luxury!)

I'm looking forward to getting it to the higher altitudes and certainly look forward to seeing it perform at M0.93!

Glad you are enjoying it so far Mark. With the taxi speed, I'm guessing you have made sure the idle switch is not on high on the throttle pedestal?

There's a switch just below the spoiler handle on the throtle pedestal (or Center Console) for Ground Idle - it can be selected for either "High" or "Norm".

No, the ground idle was set for NORM and still idling really fast.

Another flight done but still having some issues with mastering speed control as I can't seem to get the throttles sorted.

Hand flew the approach and really nice, except for the throttles leaving the power on which mean that my touchdown was somewhat positive.

There's a fix that you can make to your fsuipc.ini file that will solve this problem. Apparently it was a setting that got changed in FSUIPC that causes the throttles in the Eaglesoft bird to not go below a certain point--I had the same trouble and it left me unable to even start the plane. Fix detailed below:

Thanks for that link Moose, I now have a flyable Citation. Still a bit to learn but now I can at least control the speed.

Much appreciated.

I'm still having problems with the throttles in this thing, I simply can't get the FADEC's to work as I think they should and my throttles are going back and forth like a rocking chair and I'm getting frustrated so walking away for a few weeks.

This is real strange Mark, i'm wracking my brains trying to work out what it might be. I'm guessing you don't have this problem with any other payware aircraft? Joystick? Have you tried starting with cold & dark?

No problems with any other aircraft, payware or freeware and yes, I always start Cold and Dark.

I'm trying to get it sorted or the sole Maldivian olympian mightn't might it to London.
