Active Sky

Postby Guest » 11 Jan 2006 03:24

I recently picked up Active Sky 6 since I'm feeling like getting back into the cockpit again. This is the first time I've messed with Active Sky and I'm thoroughly confused by it. :)

It looks like it's pretty comprehensive but man.. I think I'm going to need to go thru the manual because I just loaded it up it doesn't seem to be working in FS9.

What is everyones thoughts on Active Sky? How many use it?

I personally love it... I don't fly without it. You might want to look at the options menu. I think the default setting you have to hit the refresh key first. I just fire it up and then load up FS and I haven't had any problems. There are a lot of options to mark and unmark... if you read up on it they explain it pretty well.

Second, one of the beta team/designers is active with AirSource so I'm sure he'd be glad to pitch in.

Hi Jason,

I am the man! First of all, you are right, at first glance things look overwhelming, especially if you are new to our line of products.

Next, you are right, open the manual and go page by page while ASv6 is running. Take your time, do this when things are quiet and you are not tired.

About the only way things would not be working is if while FS04 is running, you get a FS is disconnected message on the main page. Other than that I would say that things are working.

You will also want to visit our forum at AVSIM for today we released another Update that fixes a list of minor problems that have surfaced in the past month.

The default settings are good place to start and then you can adjust things to suit your needs.

I stop by here every day or so, so it is no problem writing down some questions and posting them here.

Many AirSource pilots use our weather!!

what are the frame rates like? I recently got Zinertek's world environment pro and ultimate night environment pro, both which claim to not interfere with frame rates...though I notice a slight choppiness every so often...I don't like that stuff so if I get AS, I want to know what the rates are like :)

Shouldn't have much of an impact. There are several options where if your system can handle it you can download bigger texture resolutions and vice versa you can download smaller textures. It really all depends on what your FS9 cloud setting is on.

I run AS6 pushing Flight1s Flight Environment (I think the clouds are better) and I must say it is impressive. AS6 can be hoot...for example you set an airport's weather to hurricane force winds (If you have a DH Beaver, you can hover!). With all the setting in AS it seems complicated, but only on the surface. You can customize it endlessly. Both the above programs are very frame rate friendly...they have to be.

ActiveSky v6 is a fantastic product. I've been using it for a while now and it's totally transformed the environment I'm flying in.

It looks beautiful, with no framerate drop whatsover.

I would recommend it 100%.

Active Sky is the HEAT! It layers more clouds than FS9 ever will. It makes some good wind. Just watch out for the wake turbulence effect, it seems to think there's wake turbulence on every runway.

A question for Jim. I have AS2004.5(?) B174... am I entitled to any free upgrades to later versions, whether it be v5 or v6? Or do I have to fork out the spondoolies! :)

Norm.

Hi Norm,

So sorry, but no. We offered a discount for over a year for 2004.5 to V5 and now V5 can get V6 for free. There was no way we could go back 2 versions.
