Commencing tomorrow, Thursday 01NOV12, AirSource is proud to present it's next event - Jean Batten's Footsteps.

In 1936, at age 27, Jean Batten, from Rotorua in New Zealand, became the first person to fly from England to New Zealand. Arriving 11 days and 45 minutes after her departure from Lympne she landed in Auckland and her time was to remain a record for many years.

The DC3 cruise will follow in the steps of this pioneering aviatrix, in an air cruise adventure on board the mythical DC3, one of 10655 built before, during and after WW2.

Enjoy panoramic breathtaking views from 6500 feet as we travel through 15 countries from Great Britain to New Zealand. Rediscover the pleasure and adventure of travelling, where the journey becomes as exciting as the destination itself.

There are 19 flights in this tour. The event runs until 31DEC12.

First in, first served. Please try to fly the flights in order (JB1-JB19) and fly a Douglas DC-3 or some similar vintage aircraft.

Flights must be recorded using MyAAS.

Visit the Bid Flight Division today, look at the Jean Batten Footsteps category and book you flights!

IMPORTANT: When I uploaded the flights, I should've named them JB01, JB02, but foolishly I named them JB1, JB2 etc. This means that the 10th flight (JB10) appears in the list after JB1, so you need to book from page 1, then go to page 2 to continue them in order.

Nice work Mark - booked my first 4 bids. I think I'll be tweaking the MAAM-Sim DC-3 to run in FSX.

Mark - I could change this but withbookings now and chance for further errors it is best we leave it the way it is. Great idea and even though my time is very limited it is good to know our community can enjoy another event!

And yes, it was all quite spontaneous. Saw the real set of flights and immediately thought of the crew here.

First of All - Thank you, Mark for bring Aviation History to light. I learned something about aviation history today and more importantly about the Woman that made substantial contributions and on their footsteps we tread today.

Jean's Accomplishments from Wikipedia:
1934 ??? England - Australia (women's record) 10,500 miles in 14 days 22 hours 30 minutes, breaking Amy Johnson's record by over four days.[1]
1935 ??? Australia - England in 17 days 15 hours. First woman ever to make a return flight.
1935 ??? England - Brazil: 5000 miles in 61 hours 15 minutes, setting world record for any type of aeroplane. Also fastest crossing South Atlantic Ocean, 13?? hours, and first woman to make England - South America flight.
1936 ??? England - New Zealand. World record for any type. 14,224 miles in 11 days 45 minutes total elapsed time, including 2?? days in Sydney.

Hi Mark,

I have flown the first leg of the bid event EGMD to LFML with approximatley 41 miles to landing my FSX did the usual annoying "A fatal error has occured" and went off, my flight was being recorded in myAAS v2 and now i cannot retreive the information to PIREP leg one.

Will this mean i will have to re fly leg one again?

Hey Paul,
You should be able to start the flight from where it crashed. Just select the flight again in myAAS (should have a '*' next to the route). then setup/place your plane and continue on.

EDIT (after-thought):
Ok, it depends on how you ended the flight after FS crashed. If you did "Save and Exit" or "Cancel" with keeping the flight data, the above should work. If you did "Cancel" with removing the flight data then, yes, you will have to re-fly.

A DC3 you say, would an early Connie or Convair 580 be considered vintage enough and suitable for this event?

Mark - I fly on FS9 & some of the airports
listed in this event are on FSX but not FS9.
The first one I encountered was JB12 - WSSS
to WARJ. WARJ is not on FS9 so what airport
should we fly to for proper completion of
event? And is there any others beyond this
leg, can you also suggest the same to get
the flight legs credited. Thanks
