MSFS 2020 and MYAAS

MyActive AirSource (MyAAS) is the program used by AirSource members to record their flight time. Requires Microsoft Flight Simulator and (free) version of FSUIPC. MyAAS 2 is programmed by AS 201 Joe Hamilton, and is always being reviwed for new features.

MSFS 2020 and MYAAS

Hey everyone,

When I first started flying for AS using the AAS app in conjunction with MSFS 2020, I found that I would get random CTD (Crash to Desktop) issues. This is NOT an issue with MYAAS nor FSUIPC, but has been *somewhat* debugged by FSUIPC.

Apparently SimConnect loses its way when it reaches too many "connections" for AI aircraft and ATC. I found that by turning off AI traffic it makes things much more stable. Instead of potentially suffering a CTD at the start of my descent after a 2+ hour flight, it seems capable of handling most flights in excess of 4-5 hours, with a few exceptions.

Hopefully Asobo will get working on the SimConnect stuff being a bit more stable, and this will stop the issue and allow us to return to using things in full fashion... but for the time being this seems workaround to work very well.

I thought I would pass this along to everyone in case there are others who have been suffering with the same issues.

Hey Josh,

I'll need to test more by flying more :) but I've flown quite a few hours now using myAAS/FSUIPC and FS2020 while using real world traffic/weather features with no CTD's. Is there a certain aircraft that it happens in, or airport/area, and are you using any mods/add-ons besides FSUIPC/MyAAS?

I even flew into KATL yesterday with aa lot of "crazy" traffic, I mean planes everywhere some doing somersaults on final, over downtown Atlanta, etc. What a flight!

Hey Tom,

All of my flights have been with the A320neo in MSFS. I do use the FBW mod for the A320, but have found that the CTD issue occurred regardless of whether I had the FBW mod installed or not. I also use MobiFlight for some "DIY" instrumentation I'm messing around with, but the CTD's were happening well before I began using MobiFlight.

Most of my CTD's occurred when coming into the Central/South FL area.
KMSP - KFLL is one that would produce the CTD all the time.
TJBQ - KMCO is another one that would cause the CTD.

Seemed to always trigger as ATC was calling me to begin initial descent into the area. I'm not sure if this had to do with the cache also loading AI traffic in the area as well as you join that sector... Either way, it got to be very frustrating.

I have tried for the past few days to track down the links in my history to the pages where I found the documentation from FSUIPC to try changing some settings in the config files relating to how many aircraft it would recognize, or if it would recognize the aircraft at all... Me not being a software engineer/specialist, decided it est not to mess with settings like that, and instead decided to change settings from within the game, and just turned off those functions.

It seems to have solved *most* of my issues.

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the late follow-up on this matter...

I finally found the data I was originally looking for on FSUIPC's site.

Adding "ProvideAIdata=No" to the FSUIPC7.ini file seems to fix any issues with CTD while going into populated areas, or performing a flight longer than 2 hours.

The details are all in the forum link below, but the long and short of it seems to be that Simconnect gets clogged up by the cache of AI aircraft while in the sim which then causes MSFS to crash.

After editing the .ini file, I reverted to standard graphics settings, traffic settings, and have had no issues since.

Thought this would be helpful for anyone else who may run into this in the future.
