Unusual Airstrips

Postby stephenf » 31 Aug 2007 11:52

Hi all,
A few shots of some unusual airstrips in FSX.

ZWAZ....unbelievably long runway.
Image

YXFV....strip in the middle of the city with buildings on it. Also the rotating beacon is based on the runway.
Image

NRQ....a very easy place to find an upwind runway!
Image

EGUW....tower in the middle of the runway.
Image

EDDI....That's one long terminal building.

Hopefully someone will correct the erroneous ones. EDDI - Tempelhof - is the oldest commercial airport. Interesting article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempelhof_ ... al_Airport

As an aside to this there are a couple of files in the Avsim library today to remove trees that are too close to the runway. Fine for a Spitfire which can skim the trees but a problem for a 747 who might uproot them or more probably rip the undercarriage off.

agexcl_3x.zip removes trees from an area three times the runway width
agexcl_5x.zip removes trees from an area five times the runway width

EDDI is an amazing sight in those photos. Pity it's not being used more.

I spotted that tree removal program this morning alright....could prove very handy.
