AS099 Heavy Metal - Finished

Postby as099mw » 14 Aug 2007 20:36

I just made my final HMT landing (EGKK).

It was a great event, nice routes, nice aircrafts. Almost all flights were flown under good or very good weather conditions except the Paris landing,
where I met the most severe thunderstorm ever seen and except several SAM legs, where destinations were often covered by dense fog.
I really enjoyed certain very good aircrafts, for example the 707 (HJG), DC 10-30 (SGA), L049 and DC-7C (California Classic) and, last but not least, the legendary Tu-114.

Many thanks to Jeff for many great flights and a lot of fun.
And many thanks to Andre, Roy and others for advices about good aircraft models and good gauges (like the CIVA INS).

Cheers
Martin, AS099 :)

P.S.:
When approaching EGKK, I decided to make a short scenic tour around London and to make some screenshots.

It's a freeware L-1049 found on flightsim.com. It seems to be a Mike Stone's model reworked by Wolfram Beckert. Unfortunatelly, somebody modified certain numbers in the aircraft.cfg, so that he turned the aircraft into a thristy and weak iron brick. On the other hand, these modifications are documented and can be reversed. After several hours of non AAS flying (no weather, "standard atmosphere") I tuned the model into something roughly similar to what is described here.

Sound is aliased to the CalClassic's L-049, because the original samples are distorted and the engine sound (especially internal - cockpit view) is somewhat unpleasant.

The panel included is very good and very similar but not identical to the CC L-049.

I think, that there are better L-1049 models. I used this one only because I was not sure if the L-049 is able to do the long NAM53 flight without refueling even under bad weather (strong headwinds) conditions. And due to keywords entered into the search form, the flighstim.com database revealed only this one.

And, of course, there is a payware Breitling Super Connie available here.

With only 40 legs to go, the finish line is almost in sight

Cheers
MW

Well, I want to fly from LKPR to LKPR and the route length is intended to be equal to the circumference of the equator - simply a circle (great circle) around the world. And I'd like to use the 707-320C.
Therefore my flight plan consits of five legs (option 2). Check this.
The length of the segments is limted by the aircraft range.

You can also check this version: EGCC-VRMM-NZCH-MNMG-EGCC and use something like 777-300ER or similar

You seem to have it all worked out Martin im hoping to just do it with the one stop over not sure which aircraft but maybe the Airbus 340-600 which is apparently capable of doing this i know the 777-200LR is capable or so i believe . I think i will try for honolulu from Gatwick in one hit .

I will post my pics if i drink the salty water before Honolulu :D
