John Travolta's Friendship World Tour

Postby paul01942 » 31 Jul 2010 14:22

Hello Simmers,

I have been reading an interesting article about the world tour that John Travolta undertook, on behalf of Qantas in his amazing Boeing 707 in the V-Jet livery registration N707JT he visited 13 cities on a 35000 mile trip.
i remember him coming through JFK when i was working there, it was a truely amazing aircraft, the places visited were "Mr. Travolta will fly from Los Angeles to Auckland in New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Rome, Paris, Frankfurt and New York before returning to Los Angeles. The tour involves about 80 flying hours and covers more than 35,000 nautical miles (64,700 kilometres)."
I'm thinking of posting the whole tour in the bid division, not sure under what catagory yet? i need help to know what routing he may have took, LAX to AKL i presume he must have gone via HNL would he have needed an other alternate before AKL? then all the other are straight forward until we get to Tokyo, where did he stop enroute to London? he left Frankfurt for New York, i believe he stopped in EDI did he fly direct then to JFK? his aircraft would make the route i believe?? if any has got any suggestions or info on this and can get it back to me ASAP i will begin setting up this amazing tour, i have a model off the aircraft from the Historic Jet Group where they have amazing models.
Let me know simmers ASAP

Hi,

this might be a great set of historic flights.

The aircraft (FS9) is available at Historic Jetliners Group website, use the 707-120B link and then scroll down to 707-138...

Real time bids using Flightaware are impossible, because "the aircraft is not available for tracking per request from the owner/operator".

There is an article about the tour somewhere on the Qantas website, but I'm unable to find it now.

I've recreated one of bid flights from the 2008, just as an example or warm up :)
Check the AirSource BFD / Historic Flights

Have nice days

I wonder when he changed the tracking permissions? I use to track JT's 707 all the time on flightaware.

Hi simmers,

well i have finally added the entire Friendship world tour that John Travolta did on behalf of Qantas in his amazing Boeing 707 registration N707JT "Jett clipper Ella"

Please all i ask anybody who is thinking of giving this routing ago is if you commit try and do the full circuit, i know it is a long routing but it would be a shame if somebody wants to fly the entire route and all the shorter legs have been snatched up, if somebody does want to do the whole route and the legs are looking low please can you send me a message and i wil add more bids for the specific legs.
If any of the SMT read this any chance of a news posting for this one? again is it possible to mention trying all the legs not just the short ones? you know where i'm coming from.
Have fun i will be flying the route myself having just downloaded the model off the historic Jet Group website it is a superb model.

Enjoy

Paul

I'm trying to remember exactly, but if I recall correctly, it was either shortly after his son passed away, or shortly after his Haiti aid flights.

Paul, I'm guessing he used his private callsign for the tour as I never saw his flights listed as "Quantas" on Flightaware (before he shut tracking down). Can that be verified?

I'm in, by the way, for the "Full Monty" :P

Mine is cancelled, unfortunately:

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if this proves to be another issue with a Captainsim product. I TRULY hate those people.

EDIT: I've since flown 3 flights with other aircraft and MyAAS without any problems. Time to give this bid another shot and see what happens, Paul.

I'm just guessing Steve...but probably not. I'm not sure how Events worked before I got here but I don't think it would go over very well as it's a single aircraft that must be flown for every flight. I believe it's too restrictive for an event...but that's just me.

Figured out the problem, BTW, and I'm enroute to Honolulu!!

Can someone please post the route? It's a long time off but I have some ideas for the future that this example flight "tour" would fit perfectly for.. stay tuned.

Hi Tom,

what are you thinking? i put the John Travolta tour together really quickly just did some research then away we go, its not attracting the attention i thought it might but then again the legs are quite long which seems to be off putting for some people.

Let me know your idea's
