Next AirSource Event - your input needed!!

Postby AS380 Mark Richards » 18 Jul 2009 23:33

Hi all

We're currently planning the next AirSource event and would like input from you, the members, about what you want.

A couple of ground rules:
  1. The event will only last 4-6 weeks maximum
  2. It need to be able to flown on any version of FS
  3. It needs to be fun and attractive to all crew

Let me know what you would like to see so that we can get the drawing board out and create an event to be remembered!

Mark

How about a journey down the Nile River. At more than 4000 miles in length, it should take a decent amount of time to fly it. Maybe do it in float planes or something.

A good idea, but I don't think there are too many float plane airports along the Nile.

Yeah, hadn't thought about that..... Unless we just follow the river and hit small airstrips.

This is an excellent idea for an event, but don't let that hold anyone back from making ANY suggestions for another style as well.

The more ideas we have, the greater variety of events we can stage!

Keep the creative juices flowing!

Nice idea Michael!

I echo Mark's comments. This is your opportunity to have a say, so you are strongly urged to do so!

I'm not a fan of Africa flying myself. I'd like to try and come up with some sort of Asian tour, maybe an Island-hopping tour of the Philippines or Indonesia? These seem to be the most commonly left out areas. I go to ASHA when I feel like going to Africa.

I think island hopping in the Pacific could a fun and viable option as well. We need to make sure there are enough airstrips we can fly into along a planned route though.

I've always been interested in replicating long-range historical flights, such as the 1930s Aeropostale Latecoere transatlantic routes from France to Buenos Aires with multiple stops along the west coast of Africa and the east coast of Brazil, or the Pan Am flying boat routes to South America.

I like several ideas here...island hopping and some more "testing" events.
1. What about a tour of the Windward Islands, and some of the very short strips (like Saba).
How are your STOL skills????
2. Flying "the Hump" resupply flights of WWII (this is fairly limiting as most all were in C-47's)
3. There are some challenging airstrips in the Alps, steep approaches without a long, straight run.
4. Some Bush flying...do the flights HAVE to be "connected"? A few in Alaska/B.C., a few in Australia, etc.

I loved the Cargo World Tour but, as the concensus seems to be for shorter events ( I would still like an occasional L-O-N-G one), let's do something which really tests our piloting skills...and by that I don't mean "programming the FMC" .
