Free Air Show!

Postby sonjamichelle » 05 May 2023 22:19

Living next to Tinker Air Force Base is just too damn cool!

Free air show every day. On some of their take offs they go RIGHT OVER the house, you can damn near reach out and touch them.

We see E3's and Tankers all the time, the occasional C130, every so often a B52 or B1 and when they "sneak" in the "Looking Glass" birds from the two Navy Squadrons on base. And all the T38 Talons and T6A Texans from Vance and North Texas.

So much fun for an "Addicted" Aviation Fool" like me. And of course all of us here at Air Source, lol.

Oh very cool! B52 really? I didn't even know those were flying anymore - would love to see those! But really any listed are pretty neat. I used to work on the C130 props/engines in shop in the Air Force, so have a soft spot for the C-130 :D

You can tell when the B52 is coming in, lol. Those EIGHT engines really make their presence known.

Since October I think I've seen the B52 about 4 times. Then again, who knows what I missed while sleeping, away from the house or just not looking.

Tinker AFB is one of the major maintenance facilities for the Aircraft Logistics Command. So as the Air Force updates their airborne fleet we see all kinds of stuff.

Tinker is also the home base for most of the AWACS in service. There are 27 of them based here. IIRC, mos tof the AWACS 707 based fleet have been retrofitted to the new hardware/software. I believe now the Air Force is looking for a suitable replacement for the 707 airframe. Japan has a 737 based AWACS that is quite successful. I think they are also looking at the Navy's implementation of the 757 or 767. I forget which. We see a couple of those coming in now and then. There was one on FlightRadar24 a few weeks ago.

But, yeah, it is pretty cool!

Me too kinda. It is a cool little bird. I REALLY like the AC130.

I've got it hanging over my FlightSim setup. I have to take a new picture.

And of course I just HAD to do an E3 as well.

Another little "funky" one that has a soft spot for me is the Cessna 337 or O2.
