FS9/FSX Real World Weather downloads down...maybe for good?

Postby vic365 » 18 Aug 2010 22:21

After updating to IE 8 I could not download Real World Weather in FS9. After asking about it I'm discovering that no one can, anymore, it had nothing to do with my update. The talk is RWW is now discontinued for FS, including FSX. Not sure if that's true but I'll be looking into more info. Can any of you verify your ability to download RWW? I'm not talking about addon weather programs...only the FS9 or FSX RWW.

If it is true...why in the world would they have not warned us?? OK...that's a really stupid question...since when has MS ever really listened to us flight simmers?

Someone made the comment at Avsim that it might be in preparation for the new MS sim? WTH are they talking about? Have you heard anything on these lines?

Anywho, whatever the reason, this can only really be construed as some more blackmail to get me to drop FS9. :P , I have other options...I would rather spend money on Active Sky (or similar), and continue with FS9, than do the lemming thing again. Been there, done that, stopped at FSX.

\EDIT: OK, I see the announcement at Avsim. What is "Windows Live"? I'm guessing it will require an always on online connection, like Silent Hunter V, from UBI (another non starter  ). S-I-G-H...do they REALLY not get it?

OK...never mind...it's up again (RWW). Nothing changes on my questions about MS "Flight!", however.

According to the announcement thats posted on the main page at http://www.flightsim.com
there is going to be a new one called MS Flight but there's not much that they're saying
about it at the moment. (That's MicroSnuff for ya). The above has a link to a short trailer too.

As for real weather, I just did a test flight with FSX and encountered no problems.

I have had no problems (as of yet to date) with my RWW on fs9.
But, in the event that this occurs, I was just wondering, since
AAS is affiliated (or associated) with VATSIM, is there a way to link
to their RWW? In fact if you have Active Sky, it is recommended
to use their RWW because it updates more frequent. Food for
thought. By the way Active Sky Evolutions is awesome and kind
on the frame rates.

When using FS9 and real weather, how does one find out the forecast for your destination so as to set the correct pressure setting when descending below the Transition Levels, also to find the current winds to work out possible runways in use to enter this information and STAR int one's FMC.
Along with this, would other members recommend using Active Sky to be more realistic.

btw first post on forum

A Couple of us wanted to answer your question. Get Active Sky Evaloution. Its weather
update from VITSIM is the quickest and is real easy on the frame rates of the game. Until then,
while you are in the game, click on the alt button. and when the white tool bar
at the top comes up, click on World and then click on weather. This takes you to the
weather channel of the game. Then put the dot into the Real Weather Updates
by Jessesen which updates every 15 minutes. Now you can get its up dates again
if necessary the same way you got it the first time...You can access up in the
Air with the radio if you are near a weather station. Big international Airports
all have them but dont know their range. Look on the map, find out its Airport
number and type it in your destination and reclick the ATC Weather option and it
gives you their local weather Or if you are near a weather station click on the "~" button
on top of the tab button and beside the "Q" button, that will bring up the transparrent
ATC chit chat. If it has its own weather station or one that is hear them you will see
i.e ***Tune KIND for Weather on 135.76. and a green line streaming across the top'
of your game and it will drive you crazy...so go stop, right click on the moving green
line and it disappears. Now the neat thing in Active Sky Evolutions, it does update
quicker and at more intervels and you can type in prior to your departure for any
destination airport and it gives the actual conditions in real life in super detail
Anywhere in the world. That is what help me and I just wanted to share since
nobody answered you. Drop me a line and we can share more. Hop it works for you.
Be Safe till next time.....ZZZZfly2sky told you that!

Hi All,

Please do not use both FS weather and AS weather in the same FS session. With AS running, the FS weather should automatically be set to User Defined and that is where it should stay.

Thanks!
