Anyone with the JF/PSS 757?

Postby vic365 » 24 Jul 2009 01:20

After finally getting the PSS 757, I had an almost immediate issue. I have no comm's (ATC, ATIS, etc.). I went to the JF and PSS (Avsim) forums and noted the requirement to start the default FS9 flight first, then load the 757. I tried that and it made no difference (I haven't had to use that tactic since the Ironknuckles DC9!). I then wrote JF supports and the short reply was:
If, after you have set up the aircraft, you press Ctrl+E, can you then use the radio?

Well, yes I can...but I'm hoping that this was a "trouble shooting" exercise on JF's part...and not "the way it is" with the 757. Not having radio comms until pushing back and starting engines (with CTRL+E, no less! , UGhhh!) is not going to work for me.

I replied with this question but have yet to hear back. My question to fellow PSS 757 owners is, did anyone also have the issue of no comms, even after starting the default flight first? If so...did it ever get resolved and if so, how?

Thanks for any info gang.

Are you flying online or using the FS ATC?

I don't use the FS ATC and have never had a comms problem on VATSIM.

When you start a default flight with default aircraft make sure the avionics switch is left on as I believe this might affect it.

Try hitting SHIFT+M before you start the engines. The problem isn't with the avionics master, I think it's that the PSS doesn't turn on the battery master (it's got its own battery logic). If you don't have any radios, you may also see that your external lights aren't working as well, so try SHIFT+M. I have to do that in the 757 and 777 both.

Moose...your my hero...the drinks are on me! That did the trick. As long as the busses are powered (either APU or Ground) and you then click "Shift+M", the radio comms work.

You ARE the man! I will now happily purchase the 777 also...it was on hold until I could get the 757 radios working. Never heard back from JF on this problem, other than the original reply about having engines started ( ). I can now inform them that "Thanks for the help but one of the fine people at AirSource VA, the best damn VA ever, had the answer".

I know a really shweet Belgian Triple Bock that I'd gladly hoist with you. :D

Anytime, Vic. :) I honestly do not know any way around that glitch with the 757 except if you load the default 172 first, turn the battery switch on, THEN load the 757. Poor programming IMO, and a problem that other sophisticated addon manufacturers don't have. And, yes, the 777 does the exact same thing (I have it too).

Ah, here is a common problem with FS and the way to fix it is to load the Cessna, turn off engines and battery but leave avionics on. Choose whatever airport you wish, then save the flight. Tick the make it default flight and then all your add-ons will work fine.

FWIW, I have the 152 at cargo ramp Prestwick, EGPK as my start up. Only 3 miles south of me as the crow flies. :D

Actually, you must turn Battery ON, in the default flight, for the 757 to have radio comms. Avionics "ON" does not solve the problem. This is why "Shift+M" works...it is the Master Battery switch.

Since I always start flights Cold & Dark, I prefer not to mess with the default flight and simply press "Shift+M".

If anyone who has the 757...and prefers 2D panel (the performance increase of the PSS 757 is very dramatic by disabling the VC) I have done it and would be happy to share the info. I used a hex editor to disable the VC (lights and shadows still work) and added 7 2D views, as the regular views come from the VC.

You can see the results here:
